Android’s openness allows numerous manufacturers to bring the smartphones with Android inside. However, only Samsung has been able to tap on this opportunity and has become a leading manufacturer, while other Android manufacturers trailing far behind. But, that doesn’t means that they don’t offer great devices. Specifically talking about Samsung’s Asian companions- LG (Korea) and Sony (Japan). Both of them have recently unveiled their top end devices titled as Sony Xperia Z1 and LG G2. Let’s see how they stack against each other .
Design and Build Quality :
The Sony Xperia Z1 continues the omniabalance design philosophy started by its predecessor Xperia Z. It has a uni-body aluminum body covered with glass. It also adorns the signature power button along with usual buttons and ports layout. The design is beautiful, but being glossy makes it a bit slippery in hands. It has sleek body, but has considerable weight at 170 g. Similar to Xperia Z, the Z1 is dust and water proof thanks to IP 58 certification.
LG G2 on the other hand has followed a fresh design approach with buttons at its back. The rear has a volume rocker as well as power button, which might feel awkward to use first, but actually is much more natural once you get accustomed to it. The device has a plastic body with rubberized back making it prone to smudges and fingerprints. It has a handy dimensions and weight at 143 g.
Winner: Tie, though Xperia Z1’s waterproof capability gives it an edge.
The Xperia Z1 comes with a 5 inch Full HD Triluminos display powered by Bravia X-Reality Engine. This results in impressive pixel density of 441 ppi and using the same technology used by Bravia TV’s makes the device display very crisp and sharp. It offers good brightness, but colors may seem a bit washed out.
LG G2 flaunts a 5.2 inch IPS display bearing Full HD resolution, translating to brilliant pixel density of . Being an IPS display, it has great viewing angles and offers good brightness and contrast.

Both the smartphones are equally powerful as they’re equipped with a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.26 GHz. For processing of graphics, they have Adreno 330 GPU. In terms of memory, they have 2 GB of RAM and internal storage of 16 GB/ 32 GB. However, Sony Xperia Z1 offers the flexibility of memory expansion up to 64 GB via micro SD card, but LG G2 doesn’t allows expandable memory. Both devices have a 3000 mAh battery, though Sony has added a battery saving mode called as STAMINA mode giving it better standby time. In connectivity department, the device offers usual options like 2G. 3G/ 4G support,

Both Xperia Z1 and G2 are running on Android 4.2 (Jellybean), which is not the latest, but offers good performance and companies have promised to bring an update soon.
What makes them unique is software customization through their respective Timescape and Optimus UIs. Sony has stuck to offer mainly stock Android experience with some useful additions like Small Apps, etc. Whereas, LG G2 has bevy of features like Knock Knock, Slide Aside, Q Slide, and more.
Till now, both the devices were head to head, but the difference becomes apparent when we consider the camera capabilities of these devices.
Sony has blessed Xperia Z1 with 20.7 MP G Lens with LED flash powered by Carl Zeiss Optics and Bionz processor. It has a 1/2.3 CMOS image sensor with f2.0 aperture and 3x optical zoom. This combination results in great looking photos. The camera’s prowess is supplemented by software features such as Social Live, Info Eye, Timeshift Burst, etc. It’s able to capture Full HD videos at 30 fps.
LG G2 has a 13 MP shooter at its back with LED flash. The main highlight of the camera is the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) feature allowing users to take great shots even in low lightning conditions. It’s also capable of recording Full HD videos at 60 fps.
Both of them has a 2 MP front-facing camera for video chatting purposes.

It’s a very tough battle between both the devices as they offer superb hardware, impressive camera and bright display. However, the difference lies in the looks of both these devices, which will depend upon individual preferences. If you like to go with conventional choice then Sony Xperia Z1 is a good option, on the other hand LG G2 has a unique design which might not please everyone.
